FREEDOM OD ASSOCIATION AS A BASIC COLLECTIVE RIGHT OF WORKERS

Summary

The origin and development of industrial democracy is related to the protection of trade union rights and freedoms. The right to organize trade union represents a basic collective right of workers, and is closely related to other collective rights. In legal aspect, freedom of association has been defined by international labour standards, which will be analyzed in this paper.

Trade unions are, by definition, vocational, and not political organizations. They represent a counterweight and also a partner towards a state, employer and their organizations. Unfortunately, in the Republic of Serbia, trade unions were not up to the task set by a global surrounding, and that is a need to successfully overcome social discontent related to a socio-political changes. Adding trade unions diversity, one can come to the conclusion that there is an urgent need to redefine and strengthen the position of trade unions.
